It's great to be behind the lens again as we start shooting plays for the 2016 theatrical season at The Theater in the Round Players (TRP) and the Festival Theater.
I did the publicity photograph from the Richard III performance up next at the TRP. It was a tricky shot because I wanted to show the physical deformities that the main character has which are central to the plot, while at the same time being subtle about it so it didn't look grotesque. It also happens that the plot of this particular performance is set in the World War I era, not the 15th century when Richard actually ruled England. So, the director has the character dressed in an anomalous military uniform, with no crown, and no crude crutches to show the pervasiveness of the character's infirmities.
Visually, I was left with having to show how evil a Doughboy-like character can be without the accouterment that signifies power and evil...the crown. So, we used a dagger, and I positioned the character in a way that accentuated a menacing stare.
I hope it worked well for them...we'll see if any of the usual publicity outlets actually use the photo.
The production shots for Fahrenheit 451, now on stage, went very well. This is a darkly lit show and it has a sparse stage. But, the set works extremely well to depict the cold and inhospitable atmosphere of some distant future society where people destroy knowledge by burning books in order to keep a restless populace at bay. The photography went well. i think the theater, director and actors will be pleased.
