The Prime of Miss Jane Brody...
THIS PLAY centers around the relationships that the main character, Jean Brodie played by Anna Olson, a teacher at a Scottish girls school. Miss McKay, played by my close friend Mary Kay Fortier-Spalding, is the headmistress who is her foil...a counterpoint of teaching philosophy more grounded in the tradition-driven ways of teaching young girls than the bold and "modern" way that Brodie provides in and out of the classroom. In that conflict, rests the story.
It was my first photographic essay of a theatrical performance. The actors trusted me, and knew that the work we were doing here was for them to use in their portfolios. This helped a great deal in gaining their cooperation to make really good photographs that represented what they were portraying. They did a great job with their roles and the direction was crisp and really interpreted the dynamic forses among the characters.
TRP allowed me to photograph their plays from then on...something for which I am very grateful.
